Why Organic Fake Tan?

Most conventional self-tanners contain alcohol, synthetic fragrance, parabens, and chemical preservatives. These can irritate the skin barrier, dry out skin over time, and raise concerns for people with sensitivities or those who are pregnant. TanOrganic is certified organic by Ecocert COSMOS, which means every ingredient has been independently verified — from the farm the plant was grown on, to the formula, to the packaging. It's also the only self-tan brand in the world to hold B Corp certification, meaning the business itself has been assessed against rigorous environmental and social standards. You're not just getting a cleaner product; you're getting a brand that's been independently held accountable at every level.

What certifications does TanOrganic hold?

TanOrganic holds the following independently verified certifications:

Ecocert COSMOS Organic — the internationally recognised standard for organic and natural cosmetics, verified in 80+ countries. This is one of the most rigorous organic certifications available for beauty brands globally.

B Corp Certification — TanOrganic is the first and only self-tan brand in the world to achieve B Corp status. This covers environmental impact, labour practices, community, and governance — not just ingredients.

Vegan Society Trademark — every product is certified free from animal-derived ingredients and animal GMOs.

Cruelty Free International (Leaping Bunny) — certified cruelty-free to a standard above and beyond legal requirements, across the full supply chain.

Ethical Organisation — 100 score — TanOrganic holds a perfect 100 score from the Cruelty Free and Ethical Organisation, one of the most comprehensive ethical assessment bodies in the beauty industry.

Is TanOrganic dermatologist recommended?

Yes. TanOrganic products are recommended by dermatologists, specifically for people with sensitive skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. This is because the formulas contain no alcohol, no synthetic fragrance, no parabens, and no sulfates — the ingredients most commonly associated with skin irritation and barrier disruption. The Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice base (84% in the Self Tan Lotion) actively supports skin hydration and helps maintain the skin barrier rather than compromising it. A patch test is still recommended 24 hours before full application, particularly for reactive skin.

How Long Will My Order Take to Arrive?

We want your order to be in your hands as soon as possible! We work really hard to ensure it arrives to you without any delay. This approximates how long it will take for an order to get into your hands depending on where you’re living:

  • Ireland - 1-3 Working Days
  • UK - 3-5 Working Days
  • Europe - 5-7 Working Days
  • USA - 2-4 Working Days
What is the best TanOrganic product for dry skin?

The Self Tan Lotion. It contains 84% Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice (certified organic) as its base, making it the most hydrating formula in the range. Aloe Vera at this concentration actively nourishes and plumps the skin while the DHA develops your tan. It also contains Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Ginseng, Chamomile, and Ginger Root Extract — all of which support hydration and skin health. Dry skin in particular benefits from this base because it prevents the uneven absorption that causes patchy results on dehydrated skin.

Where is TanOrganic made?

TanOrganic is proudly Irish-made. The brand is owned and operated by The Kind Brand Company Ltd., based in Dublin, Ireland. Products are manufactured in Ireland using certified organic ingredients sourced to Ecocert COSMOS standard.

What is the best TanOrganic product for fair skin or first-time users?

The Self Tan Oil is the best starting point. It contains 8% DHA and delivers a light, natural result that builds gradually with 1-2 weekly applications. Because it's a clear oil with no colour guide, it's very forgiving to apply and leaves no streaks. There's no rinse required — you apply it like a body oil and get on with your day. The Firming Gradual is also a good option for first-timers who want something even more subtle and buildable as part of a daily moisturising routine.

Is TanOrganic safe to use during pregnancy?

TanOrganic is one of the few self-tan brands considered suitable for use during pregnancy. The formulas contain no parabens, no alcohol, no synthetic fragrance, and no synthetic preservatives — the ingredients most commonly flagged as problematic during pregnancy.

All products are certified organic by Ecocert COSMOS and are free from synthetic chemicals. The DHA used is derived from organic sugar beet and has no known systemic absorption through normal skin application.

That said, every pregnancy is different. We always recommend consulting your midwife or GP before introducing any new skincare product during pregnancy, and conducting a patch test 24 hours before full application. TanOrganic is safely used and preferred by many pregnant customers, and is stocked by a number of pharmacies and dermatology practices on that basis.

Can I use TanOrganic if I have eczema or sensitive skin?

Yes, and TanOrganic is actually recommended by dermatologists for people with eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. The formula is free from the most common skin irritants: alcohol, synthetic fragrance, parabens, and sulfates. The Aloe Vera base provides active hydration and supports the skin barrier rather than stripping it.

One thing to be transparent about: some TanOrganic products contain D-Limonene (a natural citrus-derived compound) and some contain Sweet Almond Oil. Both are naturally occurring ingredients but are known allergens for a small number of people. If you have a citrus sensitivity or a nut allergy, please check the ingredient list for the specific product before use. This is exactly the kind of transparency you should expect from a brand with our certification level — and it actually builds more trust than brands that claim to be allergen-free without disclosing specifics.

Always perform a patch test on a small area of skin 24 hours before full application.

What is DHA and is it safe?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is the active ingredient responsible for creating a sunless tan. It works by reacting with amino acids in the stratum corneum — the outermost layer of skin — to produce a natural-looking brown colour. No UV exposure is involved; the reaction is entirely superficial and affects only dead skin cells.

In TanOrganic products, DHA is derived from certified organic sugar beet extract, not from synthetic chemical sources as used in many conventional tanners. The distinction matters because the purity and processing route of DHA affects how the skin responds to it. TanOrganic's organic DHA is compatible with all skin types, and 99.99% of people have no reaction to it.

DHA itself has a long safety record and is approved for use in cosmetics by regulatory bodies across the EU, US, and UK. It does not penetrate below the stratum corneum and does not enter the bloodstream through normal topical use.

Will the tan streak?

No, provided you prep correctly. The most common cause of streaking with any self-tan is inadequate skin preparation, not the formula itself. Follow these steps:

Exfoliate thoroughly 24 hours before application to remove dead skin cells, particularly on rough areas like knees, ankles, and elbows. Do not apply moisturiser immediately before tanning — this creates a barrier that interferes with DHA absorption. Apply the tan using a tanning mitt in circular motions for even coverage. Apply a small amount of moisturiser to very dry, rough areas like the elbows and knees before applying the tan to prevent over-absorption in those spots.

The Aloe Vera base in TanOrganic's Lotion formula is specifically beneficial for even distribution — it absorbs uniformly and doesn't dry too quickly, giving you time to blend properly.

What is the difference between the Self Tan Oil, Self Tan Lotion, and Firming Gradual?

Self Tan Oil (8% DHA) — A lightweight, fast-absorbing oil that delivers a light to medium natural result. It requires no rinse and leaves zero transfer on clothes or bedsheets. Best for beginners, fair skin, or anyone who wants a low-maintenance, buildable tan. Apply 1-2 times per week.

Self Tan Lotion (84% Aloe Vera Leaf Juice base) — The original TanOrganic product and still the best-seller. Higher DHA content than the oil, delivering a medium to deeper result. Contains a natural colour guide (organic Beetroot and Caramel) so you can see where you're applying. Rinse off after 6-8 hours of development time. Best for dry skin or anyone who wants more visible colour.

Firming Gradual Self Tan Cream — A daily moisturiser that builds a subtle tan over time while delivering firming actives. Designed for regular use as part of a skincare routine. Zero transfer, no rinse needed. Best for anti-ageing benefits alongside gradual colour, or for maintaining an existing tan between full applications.

Does TanOrganic have a fake tan smell?

No. The unpleasant smell associated with many conventional self-tanners comes from two sources: synthetic fragrance added to mask the DHA reaction, or low-quality DHA itself reacting with skin proteins. TanOrganic uses no synthetic fragrance. The organic DHA derived from sugar beet, combined with an 84% Aloe Vera base and natural botanical extracts including Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (sweet orange peel), means the product has a light, natural scent and no synthetic masking agents.

Can I use TanOrganic during chemotherapy?

Many TanOrganic customers do use the products during chemotherapy, and the certified organic, alcohol-free, and paraben-free formula makes it one of the gentler options available. However, chemotherapy can significantly alter skin sensitivity and reactivity in ways that vary from person to person and treatment to treatment. We always recommend checking with your oncology nurse or doctor before use, and conducting a patch test first. Do not use on broken, inflamed, or compromised skin.

Is TanOrganic packaged sustainably?

Yes. All TanOrganic packaging is 100% recyclable. The Self Tan Lotion and Oil are housed in dark glass bottles, which serve two purposes: glass is fully recyclable and inert, meaning it doesn't leach compounds into the formula the way some plastics can, and the dark pigment protects the highly active organic ingredients from UV degradation.

Recycling guidance by component: cardboard carton goes in cardboard recycling. Glass bottle goes in glass recycling. Bamboo lid and PET or sugar polymer bottles go in plastic recycling. Check with your local authority for any regional variations in recycling guidelines.

Will TanOrganic suit my Skin Type?

Good news - Our product range is specially formulated for all skin types and complexions, and they’re ideal for those with sensitive or dry skin. We use ingredients that hydrate, nourish and heal the skin, so our products can also be used on those suffering from skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema.

How long does TanOrganic last on the skin?

With proper skin preparation and daily moisturising during wear, TanOrganic products last 7-10 days. Tan fade is determined primarily by skin cell turnover — your stratum corneum naturally sheds every 7-10 days regardless of the tanning brand you use. The key factors that affect longevity are: exfoliating well before application (so the DHA bonds to fresh skin cells), staying hydrated, and moisturising daily to slow down skin drying and flaking. Avoid prolonged soaking in hot water, which accelerates cell turnover and fading.

How much product should I use per application?

For a full body application, use approximately 10-20ml. A standard full-size bottle should last around 2 months with weekly application. Using significantly more than this per application does not deepen the colour — DHA reacts with skin amino acids to a saturation point, after which additional product provides no further colour development.

Is the tan sticky?

Self Tan Oil is a lightweight, non-greasy, body oil that absorbs instantly and is dry to the touch within minutes. Once dry, there will be no stickiness.

With our products that have a colour guide (Self Tan Lotion & Mousse Products), you may experience some stickiness until its completely dry. This is due to our tan having no alcohol, drying agents or parabens in it and the colour guide been made of natural ingredients.

What allergens are in TanOrganic products?

Being upfront about this is important. TanOrganic products are free from the most common synthetic allergens, but some natural ingredients can trigger reactions in a small number of people.

D-Limonene — a naturally occurring compound found in citrus oils, present in some TanOrganic products. It's a known allergen for a small percentage of people with citrus sensitivity.

Sweet Almond Oil — present in some products and may be a trigger for people with a severe nut allergy.

DHA (Dihydroxyacetone) — the tanning active itself. While 99.99% of people have no reaction to TanOrganic's organic DHA, DHA is listed as an allergen for a very small number of people in general.

Always read the full ingredient list for the specific product you're using, and conduct a patch test 24 hours before full application. If you're unsure, contact us and we'll help you identify the right product for your specific sensitivities.

Does TanOrganic transfer onto clothes or bed sheets?

The Self Tan Oil and Firming Gradual Cream are both zero-transfer once absorbed. They dry quickly, require no rinsing, and will not mark clothing or bedsheets.

The Self Tan Lotion and Mousse both contain a natural colour guide made from food-grade Caramel and Beetroot. This can transfer before it's rinsed off — which is expected and by design, as it helps you see your coverage while applying. Once developed and rinsed (after 6-8 hours), there is no further transfer. If any colour does transfer to bedding before rinsing, it washes out easily as it's made from natural food-grade pigments, not synthetic dyes.

How do I apply TanOrganic fake tan?

Looking for the ‘glow down’ on achieving the perfect tan? You’ve come to the right place. Follow our tips below to get gorgeous, glowing skin every time.

  • The key to the perfect tan is exfoliating! Be sure to scrub off any dead skin in the shower before applying tan.
  • It’s important to moisturise any dry areas (usually elbows, knees, feet etc) before applying tan to stop it from building up and sticking to these troublesome areas.
  • Apply the tan in circular motions to avoid streaks. It usually helps to do two layers to ensure you don’t miss any areas. Let your tan dry before getting dressed, then wash off 4-8 hours later to reveal a streak free, flawless finish.
  • For first-time users, we recommend doing a patch test at least 48 hours before a full application.
